PET DOCTOR

Spiritual help not just for people -- for animals, too

Dr. Michael Fox

Q: Some of our church members are extremely saddened by and tired of hearing about all the cases of animal abuse in our area. In New York state, stray cats do not have the same rights as dogs, and we would like to know what our parish can do to change this.

Can you please direct us as to what steps we can take to help protect cats from further abuse?

A: Local religious organizations can do much to protect the welfare of animals in the community and in the natural environment. The old view of putting humans first is wearing thin as more people are realizing that when we harm the Earth, we harm ourselves, and that animals are part of the community, with interests and rights. My book The Boundless Circle: Caring for Creatures and Creation (Quest Books, 1996) explores the role of religion and the responsibilities of people of faith in conservation and animal protection.

all that lives and breaths are children of god, if i was take you and an ant and float you into space, on the grand scheme of things you are not much different in size compared to the infinate universe, [WINK]

All that lives and breaths are creations of God. To equate an ant, a rat, a swine, or any beast, clean or unclean, as being children of God would certainly fall right into the role of destroying the Judeo-Christian Ethic as radiated by the Father Of The Animal Rights Movement, Peter Singer when he said...... "Christianity is our foe. If animal rights is to succeed, we must destroy the Judeo-Christian religious tradition." On the grand scheme of things humans are first as witnessed by, 'John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.' To actually think that Putting Humans First Is Wearing Thin would fall into the catagory of '1 Timothy 4:1-3 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.'

An anti is not equal to a human or even a dog.
