Sounds Like Liberation From Being Alive

How far is PETA willing to go to make its point?

October 31, 2006

What would you think of an "animal rights" organization that has euthanized more than 14,400 dogs, cats and other "companion animals" over a six-year period? How would you feel if you knew that nearly 90 percent of the animals that came through their system were euthanized during 2005? You'd say the same thing I am: what kind of animal rights organization is that?

The one I'm referring to is well known and well established. You know it as PETA, or the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. It's an organization that last year brought in about $29 million in donations from people who probably think PETA helps pets of all kinds.

Not so sure PETA euthanized any domestic animals at all? They have to file public records on the animals they take in during the year. Go to http://www.petakillsanimals.com/downloads/PetaKillsAnimals.pdf and see the forms for yourself.

Then there is PETA's latest campaign, "Feeding kids meat is child abuse," which was launched in the United Kingdom recently and is destined for the U.S. at some point in time.

This from an organization whose president, Ingrid Newkirk, describes their overriding goal in these terms: "total animal liberation."
